HYDERABAD: The state government's decision to constitute a statutory committee for overseeing implementation the SC and ST sub-plans and spending on them shows the government's commitment to Dalit welfare,  PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana has said.

Speaking at a function organised by the PCC's SC and ST Cell at Gandhi Bhavan here on Saturday on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the architect of the Constitution BR Ambedkar, Satyanarayana said the government quickened the pace of implementation of all developmental and welfare programmes initiated by the Congress government in 2004. On the demand for installation of an Ambedkar statue on the Assembly premises, he said chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy had already taken a favourable decision and the installation might take place in the coming few months.

Deputy chief minister Damodar Rajanarasimha said that Dalit community leaders should unite all Dalits for the protection of their rights and all-round progress.
