Decision on Telangana statehood after consultations: Government

A suitable decision will be taken on the issue of formationof a separate Telangana state on the basis of consultations with politicalparties, the government today said in the Rajya Sabha.

Minister of State for Home Jitendra Singh said that inaccordance with the report submitted by Sri Krishna Committee, the governmentis consulting all the political parties on Telangana issue.

Singh was replying to a debate on a Private Members' resolutionmoved by Prakash Javadekar (BJP).

He said the government is keeping a close watch over thepolitical situation and agitation for creation of a separate state and a"suitable decision" will be taken on the basis of the consultationswith political parties.

Refuting charges of neglect of Telangana region, he said thegovernment was taking all steps for equal progress of all regions of AndhraPradesh.

Members belonging to BJP, TDP and Shiv Sena were, however,dissatisfied with the reply and staged a walkout.

The resolution was defeated by voice vote as Javadekarrefused to withdraw it.
