VIJAYAWADA: Terming the Congress government as a corrupt regime, Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday alleged that former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy did nothing for the benefit of small and marginal farmers. After unveiling the statue of TDP founder NT Rama Rao at Bhairavapatnam village, Naidu began his rythu porubata from Nadupuru village in Pedana mandal.

During his 13-km long padayatra from Nadupuru to Machilipatnam, he interacted with many farmers and inspected dampened paddy heaps due to the recent rain on the outskirts of Nadupuru.

He alleged that the government failed to come to the rescue of rain-hit farmers.

The government should procure discoloured paddy at support price, he said.

Later, Naidu visited the fast camp of textiles merchants at Pedana and expressed solidarity with their stir against VAT on textiles.

Naidu entered Krishna district at Upputeru after completing his rythu porubata in West Godavari.

Interacting with aqua farmers, he said the TDP would fight for their cause as their fish ponds were destroyed during Operation Kolleru

Babu Promises 30 pc Quota to Minorities

MACHILIPATNAM: TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu made several promises to the SC, ST, BC and minority communities in a bid to woo them here on the last day of his Rythu Poru bata in Krishna district on Wednesday.

His speech resembled like that done during an election campaign.

Addressing the public, Naidu reiterated that social justice will be possible only by the TDP.

He promised to fight for 30 per cent reservation to backward communities like Gouds, Yadavs, weavers, fishermen and others if his party was voted to power.

He invited those belonging to the Kapu community to rejoin the party.
