15 held for ransacking belt shop

Muthukuru police arrested 15 persons for ransacking a belt shop at Gopalauram in the mandal on Monday. A group of people, including some women attacked the belt shop and smashed liquor bottles on Sunday.

Muthukur SI P Venkatanarayana, who visited the village on Monday, said they had registered a case suo motu as none including the owner of the belt shop lodged a complaint with the police.

Meanwhile, three other attacks on wine shops was reported in Muthukur town on Monday where people plundered liquor bottles and the police registered cases against 127 persons for their alleged involvement in the three incidents. The total loss caused by the attacks on the four wine shops has been put at `2.5 lakh.

It is learnt that the owner of the three wine shops in Muthukur and the belt shop at Gopalapurmam are ‘outsiders’ having links with some TDP leader. A follower of the Cong MLA Adala Prabhakar Reddy is supposed to have instigated people for the attack. Sources said the two detained Cong activists were involved.
