‘Cancel Soma-CGGC’s Polavaram bid’

Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao has demanded cancellation of the bids filed for the Polavaram irrigation project since the lowest bidder, Soma-CGGC consortium,  quoted Rs 477 crore more than the lowest bid quoted by SEW-Patel four months ago.

Speaking to Express from Delhi, Rao said that last time, when the price bid was finalised in favour of Sew-Patel, the Telugu Desam had raised a an objection. This time even ministers demanded cancellation of the bids. It would, therefore, be proper if the chief minister did as urged, he said.

“The amount thus saved could be utilised for construction of houses for the poor which would bring a good name to the government,” Hanumantha Rao said. Asked what he would do if the chief minister did not cancel the bids, he said would bring the issue to the notice of the party high command.
