Congress Rajya Sabha MP to fast and observe silent protest

Demanding a brainstorming session of party leaders be conducted to strengthen the ruling Congress in Andhra Pradesh, senior party Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao said here today that he would undertake a fast, as well as observe a silent protest tomorrow.

He told reporters that he would also observe a 'mauna deeksha' or silent protest at the state Congress headquarters.

He has been demanding for long that the state Congress leadership organise a brainstorming session to deliberate on ways to strengthen the party, but it has not been done so far.

He expressed concern over the party's declining popularity graph and the rise of Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy's YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).

He asserted that he wishes to see the Congress return to power in the 2014 general and assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh.
