VIJAYAWADA: A YSR Congress party activist was hacked to death by three unidentified assailants at Jodugudem village in Avanigadda Assembly constituency on Thursday morning. According to information, Bandi Venkateswara Rao (45) of Kodali village in Ghantasala mandal was going on a two-wheeler to Chitturpu village after inspecting the fish pond works at Jodugudem when the trio who came on a motorcycle, attacked him with swords.

Rao, a former Congress leader, joined the YSR Congress party after it was floated by YS Jaganmohan Reddy. He had a good following in Ghantasala and Challapalli mandals. Ghantasala SI L Venkateswara Rao said Rao had an old rivalry with Boddu Choudary of the same village.

He had a dispute with Choudary over a fish pond and the case is still pending in the High Court. Based on a complaint by Rao’s nephew G Venkata Srinivas Rao, the police registered a case.
