2 ex-VCs also face arrest in Vemana University scam

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) police are preparing to arrest a few more officials of SV University in the next few days in connection with the misappropriation of funds in the construction of building at Yogi Vemana University, Kadapa.

Source in the CID told Express here on Friday two former vicechancellors among those likely to be arrested.

“We had gathered enough evidence over the involvement of a vicechancellor of that period.

We are taking legal advise for arresting him,” the source said.

Besides the former OSD of YVU and former registrar of Sri Venkateswara University Y Venkatrama Reddy and engineering officials E Madusudhan and Hidyatulla, those who held high offices at SV University at that time are also responsible for whatever fraud that took place, CID officials said.

Before upgrading the SV University PG centre at Kadapa into Yogi Vemana University in 2007, the state government had sanctioned some funds to take up civil works in 2005-06.

As the PG centre comes under the purview of SVU, they entrusted the responsibility of executing the construction with SV University.

The state government had also sanctioned `6 crore for the construction of a multistoried building.

“We have collected relevant documents and studied the extent to which they had misused the funds,” CID sources said.

Once the legal advisers give the go-ahead we will take the others into custody,” they said.

Meanwhile, there was tension among the officials at SV University as a senior professor and two engineering officials had been arrested.

There were animated discussions over the possible arrest of others.
