Telangana leaders rubbish Shinde's remarks

Union minister for home Susheel Kumar Shinde should think twice before giving statements such as he had on Monday, as they have the potential to create unnecessary political tensions and can also prompt students and youths to commit suicides, Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) chairman Prof M Kodandaram has said.

Speaking to Express, he said that people need not give importance to Shinde’s comments as it is not a policy statement on the issue.

“The home minister has to discuss with the prime minister and other colleagues before delivering a policy decision,’’ he said and dismissed Shinde’s comments as routine comments of a minister on a pending file.

On Monday, the Union minister said immediate decision on separate statehood to Telangana was not possible now.

Shinde said that there were reports indicating rise in Naxal activities in the smaller states.

Meanwhile, addressing mediapersons at the Secretariat, Telangana Nagara Samithi president Nagam Janardhan Reddy lambasted Shinde for his comments on Telangana.

“The Union home minister has bowed to pressure of Seemandhra leaders’ money,” he alleged.
