CM may ask TJAC to defer Telangana march

Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is understood to have decided to make an appeal from the floor of the House on Friday urging the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (TJAC) to postpone its proposed Telangana March, scheduled from September 30 to October 20, to ensure smooth conduct of the  International Biodiversity Conference of Parties (COP-11) begining from October 1 in Hyderabad.

Perturbed by the proposed Telangana March, chief minister held a meeting with ministers from Telangana region at Jubilee Hall here on Thursday and sought their advice on how to persuade the TJAC leaders to put off their march.

Kiran Reddy is believed to have expressed his concern over the proposed march, saying that as the march date falls on September 30, a day after the immersion of idols of Ganesha, it would create inconvenience to devotees who turned up in large numbers at Tank bund since the procession for the immersion would continue the following day also. Hence, the chief minister made it clear that it would not be possible for the government to give permission to the march on September 30.

It is learnt that several ministers, who participated in the meeting, suggested the chief minister to hold an all-party meet on the issue on the Assembly premises and make an appeal to all the political parties requesting them to convince the TJAC to postpone its proposed march to a latter date, for which Kiran Reddy agreed.

At the same time, Kiran Reddy also asked the ministers from Telangana region to convince TJAC leaders and separatist parties to put off the march.

Sources said that as per the directive of the chief minister, ministers from the Telagnana region will make an open appeal to TJAC leaders in this regard.

Meanwhile, apart from deputy chief minister Damodara Rajanarasimha, ministers K Jana Reddy, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Mukhesh Goud, P Sudarshan Reddy and R Venkat Reddy did not turn up at the meeting.

Interestingly, Jana Reddy participated in the  preparatory meeting for the World Telugu Conference under the chairmanship of Kiran Reddy, which was held a few minutes before the chief minister’s meet with Telangana ministers at the same venue.
