6 hurt in Tirumala stampede

At least six people were injured in a mild stampede at Tirumala on Saturday, as lakhs of devotees witnessed the Garuda Seva on the fifth day of the nine-day Brahmotsavams.

Over four lakh devotees from every nook and corner of the country and abroad converged on the seven hills to worship the Lord on the occasion, amid tight security.

Police personnel failed to control the crowd which resulted in a stampede where six pilgrims were injured and one of them fell unconscious. The injured were shifted to hospital for first aid.

Barring this incident the Garuda Vahana procession passed off smoothly.
