A 20-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging self at her residence due to alleged harassment by a man at Tallagadda street in Suryapeta town on Saturday.
Police said the victim, Kola Uma, was a teacher at a private school in Suryapet. She was reportedly being stalked by N Saidulu, who too lives in the same street, for a year now in the name of love.
Meanwhile, Uma's parents fixed her engagement ceremony on Sunday. Upon learning this, Saidulu threatened the girl with serious consequences if she married any other person than him, on Friday night.
A terrified Uma killed self by hanging from the ceiling fan this morning when she was alone in the house.
Her relatives staged a dharna with Uma's body in front of Saidulu's residence. Saidulu is absconding. Uma's father Yellaiah lodged a complaint with police.
