Vijayawada cop wins 5 medals in swimming

Police constable M. Tulasi Chaitanya from Vijayawada won five medals in swimming events at the 61st All India Police Aquatics and Cross Country Championship 2012 held at Guwahati in Assam. The Andhra Pradesh Police won medals in swimming at all India level for the first time. His performance in the sport has earned M. Tulasi Chaitanya a cash prize of Rs  85,000 and seven increments as well as a possible promotion.

“His talent was identified and a specialized training and nutrition programme was designed for Tulasi Chaitanya. He trained for nine months following which he also accompanied me on the ultra endurance swim of 25 km from Bheemunipatnam to Visakhapatnam in December,” said Rajiv Trivedi, additional director-general of sports.
