Welcoming the state government’s decision to probe the arrest of former minister P Shankar Rao on Thursday, his  daughter Sushmitha alleged on Friday that the police deliberately behaved harshly with her father even though they cooperated with the police.

`My father Shankar Rao is a senior citizen and leading light in the Congress. He has been elected at least six times as MLA from the city. Acting under instructions from higher officials and violating rules and regulations, police swooped on his home and forcibly took him into custody,’’ she alleged.

Talking to mediapersons at a hospital where her father is undergoing treatment, Sushmitha said that a battery of policemen including Alwal, Kushaiguda, Neredmet and Keesara inspectors descended on the house and abused Rao in filthy language.

Though the family members cooperated with the police and allowed them to question  Rao at home in view of his delicate health, police were bent on taking him to police station. All of a sudden, they took my father forcibly into custody and shifted to the police station. The police officers crossed their limits while dealing with the matter. The involvement of the Keesara, Alwal and Kushaiguda police inspectors was surprising, she said.

“I welcome the probe. The facts will come out shortly. My father’s health is stable and his BP and sugar levels are normal,’’ she said.
