The Maheswaram Police on Monday took into custody a 22-yearold farm labour for sexually assaulting and murdering his girlfriend. After killing her, the accused had hanged her from a tree at Dasarlapally village in Kandukur police station limits.

Meanwhile, doctors who conducted the postmortem of the victim’s body concluded that she had been raped and then strangled to death. The doctors also found nail scratches on the victim’s body.

Police said that the accused Naresh had been in a relationship with the girl since the last few months. Naresh had affair with the victim since a few months. But when her parents came to know, she started asking Naresh to marry her and convince her parents.

On Sunday, Naresh asked her to come to the farm where the couple usually used to meet.

When she came around 3 p.m., she had a heated argument with Naresh, who then raped her and strangled her to death. He then tied her body to a tree to make it look like a suicide.

Locals noticed her body around 4.30 p.m.  and informed her family, who shifted her to a hospital.

“We have taken the suspect Naresh into custody and he is being grilled. We suspect Naresh killed the victim after sexually assaulting her.

We will take stern action against the accused after receiving the postmortem reports,” police said. A case has been registered under section 302 (murder) of IPC against Naresh.
