Mild tremors were experienced at many rural areas in the district in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The intensity of the tremors was recorded as 2.9 on the Richter scale.
The tremors were felt at 7.29 am at Makavarapalem, Narsipatnam, Rolugunta, Koyyuru and Madugula mandals and in several other rural and agency areas.
People at Narsipatnam and Makavarapalem ran out of their houses out of fear as glasspanes, tables and other furniture items started shaking.
According to information, the tremors lasted four seconds.
However, officials said the tremors were mild and there was no specific reason behind them.
“Tremors are quite normal deep down the earth as several changes happen in the layers of the earth. Sometimes, however, the tremors reach up to the surface,” a senior scientist said.
