A government school teacher was beaten black and blue by villagers for allegedly molesting a 10th class student Wednesday.

M Gopi (32), a physical education teacher (PET) at the zilla parishad school at Nadimpalli in Kalakadamandal of Piler constituency, had detained the girl after the drill period on Saturday and allegedly molested her. He also asked the girl to come alone to him daily so that he could give her special lessons.

After reaching home, the girl told everything to her parents, who, along with some villagers, went to the school on Monday and complained to the headmaster. With the headmaster and other teachers strongly denying that the incident took place, the villagers had a heated argument with the school staff. The villagers went to the school again on Tuesday and demanded that the headmaster take immediate action against Gopi. But the staff refused. Irked, the villagers on Wednesday beat up the teacher at school.  However, Gopi was rescued by other teachers who helped him escape.

The girl’s parents filed a complaint with the district collector, who has asked district education officer Pratap Reddy to conduct an enquiry.
