Police arrested four persons and seized a panchaloha idol of Buddha from them at Rosamma Satram in Gudluru mandal on Thursday.
Gudluru SI N Nagamalleswara Rao said a police team raided Rosamma Satram after receiving a phone call from an anonymous person who informed them about suspicious movement of some strangers in the village.
Guda Chandra Reddy, Ranganatham Ravi Kumar, Gali Seshaiah and B Madhusudhan Reddy of Vinjamuru in Nellore district were arrested while trying to dispose of a 11 kg Buddha idol. The four-member gang purchased the ancient panchaloha idol at Rs 5 lakh from one Sankar in 2011. The idol was kept at Rosamma Satram for about one and a half year after buying it. The y failed to sell the idol as none came forward to buy it at an exorbitant price.
