A 27-year-old man from a village in Kavali mandal in Nellore district attempted suicide by jumping down the hill  at Avvaseru Kona at around 4.25 am here on Thursday while trekking his way to Tirumala from Alipiri.

The man, A Srinivas, suffered minor injuries. Then, wanting to live, he shouted for help from a place 900 feet below the footpath. Some pilgrims, who were going on foot, heard his shouts and alerted the TTD guards on duty along the footpath.

A special team of Tirumala police managed to rescue Srinivas around 7 am. On finding him injured in his waist, legs and other parts of his body, Police rushed him to the Government Ruia Hospital at Tirupati where  doctors declared his condition to be stable. When this correspondent visited the hospital, Srinivas was in utter shock and could not state the reasons for his decision to commit suicide. All that he said was that he was a construction labourer and his father’s name was Laxmana Swamy. Police contacted his family and informed them of the incident.
