Road rage claims 7 lives

Seven persons died in three separate ghastly road accidents in Nalgonda, Nizamabad and Krishna districts on Sunday.

Three persons died on the spot when a speeding truck ran over them at Srirangapuram Bypass Road in the Kodada town police limits on Sunday morning.

According to police, a group of eight persons were travelling to Vijayawada in a Toyota Quallis vehicle, which they had hired from SR Nagar in Hyderabad.

When they reached Kodada town limits, one of the tyres of the vehicle they were travelling in, got deflated. While the rest of the passengers were standing near the vehicle, three of them onto the road to stop vehicles for tool box so they could change the tyre.

A speeding truck, on its way to Vijayawada, ran over the trio and then collided with another Toyota Quallis parked on the roadside for repairs. All the three died on the spot. There was no one in the second vehicle. Driver of the truck fled the spot leaving the vehicle.

The deceased were identified as A Tulasamma (50), Y Balakrishna Murthy (60) and Y Ramprasad Babu (35). While the old woman was from Krishnalanka in Vijayawada, the other two hailed from Mangalagiri in Guntur district.

According to the others, who were travelling along with the victims, it all happened in a fraction of a second. The Kodada police registered a case and started investigation. In another incident, a 35-year old man and his six-year-old son died when a speeding lorry hit the motorcycle they were riding at Mallaram village under Nizamabad rural police circle limits on Sunday.

According to Nizamabad Rural CI M Somanath, the victims were identified as K Mahender Reddy and his son K Shashikanth Reddy. The duo was going to their relatives’ house at Govuru village in Varni mandal. A speeding lorry bearing number AP25U3253 coming in the opposite direction, collided with their motorcycle head on. Both died on the spot. Driver of the lorry, abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot.

A case has been registered and investigation is on.

Meanwhile, in yet another traffic incident, two farm labourers who died when a tractor fell into a road-side canal in Nagayalanka mandal of Krishna district on Sunday.

Nagayalanka inspector TL Raju said the deceased were identified as Pasam Srinivasa Rao (35) and Thota Rama Rao (48) of Barrankula village.

Srinivasa Rao and Rama Rao, along with some other villagers, went to Pedapalem in Duggirala mandal of Guntur district, for farm work. The incident took place while they were returning home along with other villagers for Sankranti festival. Eleven other farm workers travelling in the ill-fated tractor escaped unhurt.

The bodies were sent to the government hospital at Avanigadda for a post-mortem examination. A case was registered.
