I’m ashamed of being Congress MLA: Jogi

Pedana MLA Jogi Ramesh has said he will quit his post and resign from the Congress if the Centre takes a decision in favour of separate Telangana.

Addressing a media conference at the state guest house on Thursday night, Ramesh came down heavily on the Congress and held the party high command responsible for the agitations and political uncertainty in the state.

The Congress is doing everything possible to win the Lok Sabha seats in Telangana region in 2014 elections, he said, adding that the ruling party has TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao solidly behind it.

“The Congress high command is oblivious of the aspirations of the people of Andhra Pradesh and is least bothered about the political developments in the state. It only cares for its electoral prospects,” he alleged.

The Pedana MLA said he would oppose division of the state tooth and nail. “Statements given by Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Vayalar Ravi give a clear indication of possibility of division of the state,” he said.

“We should teach the Congress a lesson for its policies favouring Telangana statehood,” he added. Ramesh has given clear indications of quitting the Congress as he is likely to join the YSR Congress.

It may be mentioned here that the Pedana MLA had openly criticised Central leaders, including Ghulam Nabi Azad and Vayalar Ravi. “I am ashamed of being a Congress MLA,” he said and added that the party leadership would be responsible for the backlash in Seemandhra region if Telangana state is created, he said.

“Time has come that AICC president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi gives a clear statement on the future of Andhra Pradesh,” the MLA said. Referring to TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu’s Vastunna Meekosam Padayatra in Krishna district from January 21, Ramesh said he would obstruct the tour with black flags in Ibrahimpatnam mandal.

Ramesh accused the TDP chief of resorting to backstabbing policies regarding division of the state.

“Let’s see how the TDP chief enters the Coastal Andhra region after rendering support to the Telangana statehood,” he said and added that he would block the Padayatra in Krishna district.
