No drinking water in Sangareddy

The district headquarter town of Sangareddy has been facing acute shortage of drinking water for the last five days, with no supply from Manjeera reservoir, which is but 2 km from the town

The district headquarter town of Sangareddy has been facing acute shortage of drinking water for the last five days, with no supply from Manjeera reservoir, which is but 2 km from the town.

However, from the same reservoir, drinking water is being supplied to Hyderabad, and towns like Gajwel, which is 100 km from Sangareddy. Officials have not responded to the crisis and failed to supply drinking water even through tankers.

Officials are giving different reasons for the drinking water scarcity.

Now they say taps are not functioning and then they attribute it to shortage of water in Manjeera reservoir. When contacted, Sangareddy municipal commissioner (incharge) Ramesh said there is shortage of water in the reservoir.

Water is not to the level where the well meant for drawing water from the reservoir for Sangareddy town needs is located, he said.

He said the situation can improve only with the release of water from Singur project to Manjeera reservoir.

“The problem has been brought to the notice of higher-ups and letters were written to them several times”, he said, in anticipation of a positive response within the next couple of days.
