BJP does not trust Telangana feelers by Congress

Expressing doubts over the pro-Telangana feelers by Congress, the BJP has demanded that Congress president Sonia Gandhi clarify on the issue.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, BJP state president G Kishan Reddy said the Congress has been deceiving the people of Telangana for the last five decades and the people are in no mood to believe it any more. Union finance minister P Chidambaram, when he was home minister, made an announcement in 2009 that the process of formation of Telangana state would begin, but it never materialised. Similarly, present home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has said that within 30 days the issue of Telangana will be solved, but even after three months nothing has taken place, he said.

Again now, as the local body and general elections are nearing, the Congress has started its old game and making pro-Telangana statements. Describing AICC state incharge Digvijaya Singh as the “biggest political buffoon”, the BJP leader said his statements can’t be taken seriously as he keeps changing his stance according to the needs of the party.

“When the Congress had made up its mind to carve Telangana state, then why is it not doing it. Let Congress president Sonia Gandhi make an announcement in this regard and clear the air. Why is the Congress playing hide and seek and instigating the people of both the regions,” he asked. Before passing a resolution on Telangana in the state Assembly or announcement on the issue, the Congress should bring clarity within its party members, as one group was advocating separate state and another was for united Andhra Pradesh, he said.

The BJP won’t mind Congress taking credit for creating Telangana state, but it was only provoking and confusing the people of the state, which is troubling. Telangana is a sensitive issue and the Congress is handling it in an irresponsible manner, he alleged. The BJP state president said whether the Congress give  Telangana or not it will never be able to win the confidence of the people of the state.
