Dinesh Reddy to take Tiger Shanker Rao to court

The ‘war’ between director general of police V Dinesh Reddy and Cantonment MLA P Shanker Rao has taken a new turn, with the DGP saying he would file a defamation case against the MLA shortly, for his allegations that Dinesh and his wife Kamala had acquired huge properties illegally. The Cantonment MLA has been blackmailing DGPs, Dinesh Reddy said.

“Shanker Rao has been making false remarks against me, and he sought my wife Kamala’s property details. He filed an application seeking details of her assets in GHMC area and all 23 districts, on August 13, 2012. Later, he spoke to mediamen stating that I have acquired assets through benamis,” Reddy said on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, sources said Shanker Rao’s arrest is imminent in connection with his remarks against the cm and the DGP. Saifabad police would add more charges, including blackmail, against the MLA.  “Shanker Rao used to write letters to my predecessor K Aravinda Rao seeking transfer of inspectors and DSP rank officers. When his recommendations are turned down, he would start blackmailing the officers by making baseless allegations. It happened with Aravinda Rao, with me and with Anurag Sharma (Hyderabad police commissioner),” Dinesh Reddy said.

Shanker Rao is an accused in Green-field land grabbing case involving 70 acres worth Rs 400 crore, and it was proved during the course of investigation by CID. “How can he make such serious remarks against state police heads? Shanker Rao’s false remarks would have an adverse impact on the entire police department,” the DGP said.

“When Aravinda Rao was DGP, Shanker Rao made allegations against him that he was deep in scandals. He also made allegations that Rao acquired properties worth Rs 100 crore.

Taking a serious note, Aravinda Rao wrote to chief secretary stating that the MLA had made remarks without any basis and sought action against Shanker Rao,” he said.
