Do not ignite passions: Harish to Lagadapati

TRS leader T Harish Rao has cautioned Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal against inflaming passions by opposing bifurcation of the state which might create a sense of insecurity among the people of Andhra who have settled in Hyderabad.

Speaking at a workers’ meeting at Telangana Bhavan here on Wednesday, Harish Rao said that if Rajagopal really cared for the  people of Andhra settled in Hyderabad, he should cooperate in the creation of a separate state for Telangana region.

He said Lagadapati or no Lagadapati, Telangana state would be created. If not now, it would be a reality after 2014 elections as by then the TRS would emerge as a potential political force which would be in a position to dictate terms.

He said he welcomed the talk that the Congress was taking a decision in favour of Telangana state. “But the people are little circumspect because of the track record of the Congress in going back on its promises,’’ he said.

“There is a general feeling that the Congress was trying to lure the people of Telangana with a promise of separate state as it needs to win panchayat elections.

The Congress to restore credibility, should move a resolution in the Parliament for creation of the state, he said adding that then only people would trust it. Otherwise the hectic activity in the Congress is only a stage-managed event for winning panchayat polls”, he said.
