Mopidevi's brother, son join YSRC

In what is being seen as a blow to the Congress in Guntur district, jailed former minister Mopidevi Venkataramana’s brother Haranath and son Rajiv, along with their supporters joined YSR Congress party in the presence of party honorary president YS Vijayalakshmi at her Lotus Pond residence here on Friday.

After joining the party Haranath described how his brother was used as a pawn by the Congress in targeting YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Though the GOs relating to allotment of land to VANPIC project that Venakataramana had signed were based on decisions taken at the cabinet meeting and yet he was made a scapegoat.

With Venkataramana’s family and supporters joining the YSRC, it is become increasingly evident that Venkataramana would be the YSRC nominee for Repalle Assembly constituency which he is representing in the Assembly now. As Mopidevi is likely to join the YSRC, the party had has so far not announced the coordinator for the constituency. “Though he has not officially joined the party since he is in jail, for all practical purposes, Mopidevi Venkataramana is YSRC leader now,” one YSRC functionary said.
