Shankar Rao moves court to get back documents

Alleges that cops searched his house without warrant, took away the papers forcefully.

Controversial Congress leader and former minister P Shankar Rao on Friday filed a private complaint against Neredmet police in the Nampally court, seeking a direction to the cops to handover crucial documents they had seized from his residence. The case has been posted for July 12.

Shankar Rao, accompanied by his daughter P Sushmitha, lodged the complaint with the XVIIth metropolitan court. The former minister has named Alwal ACP Ganesh Reddy, Neredmet inspector P Srinivas, Keesara inspector G Jagan and two sub-inspectors of the Neredmet police station Lingaswamy and Shankariah in his complaint.

In his complaint, he said on October 13 2012, Neredmet police led by ACP G Ganesh Reddy had visited his house in Musheerabad to question him over alleged forged documents of Green Field venture at Neredmet and conducted searches in his absence without a search warrant.

Speaking to reporters, Shankar Rao said he had approached the court as his repeated appeals to the police had failed. “I have full faith in the court and hopeful that I will get justice,” he said.

“The team forcefully took away all the crucial documents pertaining to the corruption cases, including OMC, controversial 26 GOs, DGP V Dinesh Reddy and others. As I don’t have the documents, I am not able to prove my point in the court of law. Hence, I have requested the court to direct the police to handover the documents”, he said.

Though he had lodged a complaint with the Musheerabad police against Alwal ACP alleging that he had stolen valuable documents from his house, the police did not take action till now, he alleged.

On DGP Dinesh Reddy, Shankar Rao said he had proof against him and would produce it before the court. “Let the government order CBI inquiry against both of us and let’s see who is guilty,” he remarked. He said he would continue his fight against corruption.

Shankar Rao’s daughter Sushmita had lodged a complaint against 40 people, including chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and DGP V Dinesh Reddy, at the Musheerabad police station on February 7, 2013.

It is alleged that Shankar Rao and his brother Dayanand thwarted the process of regularisation by revenue officials in favour of members of the Green Fields Plot Owners’ Association and intimidated and threatened government officials.
