A financial dispute between LB Nagar MLA D Sudheer Reddy’s wife Kamala Reddy and her close friend Aruna came out into the open here Sunday with the latter threatening to lodge a police complaint against the former for allegedly harassing her.

Aruna did not lodge a police complaint till late in the night. Police sources said both women had a heated argument in the morning after which, both threatened to commit suicide.

By evening, Aruna told the media she would be lodging a police complaint against Kamala Reddy. The matter, sources said, pertains to a `4-crore transaction between both.

Kamala Reddy and Aruna are childhood friends and hail from a village near Miryalaguda in Nalgonda district. Aruna, the sources said, was closely associated with the financial dealings of Kamala Reddy.

It is further learnt that a few years ago, Kamala Reddy gave Aruna a Rs 2-crore loan which she invested in jewellery shops in the city among other things but soon ran into losses.

“Aruna returned the Rs 2 crore along with interest to Kamala recently. However, the MLA’s wife claimed she was supposed to get more money which led to the dispute,” the sources told Express.

They said after the argument this morning, Aruna attempted suicide by dousing herself with kerosene. Kamala too threatened to follow suit but following the intervention of her family members, nothing untoward happened.

After the episode, Aruna reportedly called up the police and informed them that she would come to police station to lodge a complaint against the MLA’s wife for harassing her.

“We received information about the tiff between Kamala Reddy and her close friend Aruna. But, there was no complaint in connection with the issue. If the victim lodges a complaint, we will look into the issue,’’ said Saidabad inspector A Srinivasulu said.

Family members and close aides of Sudheer Reddy reportedly contacted Aruna and efforts are on to sort out the matter amicably.
