No leader’s picture on PDS bags: EC

State Election Commission secretary Navin Mittal has clarified that essential commodities can be distributed through public distribution system during the gram panchayat election period, but  not in bags bearing the pictures of any political functionary.

According to a press release issued here on Tuesday by the commission, the same rule will be applicable for the forthcoming urban local bodies and MPTCs & ZPTCs elections.

Some of the district collectors have sought clarification from the state election commission on distribution of essential commodities in plastic bags depicting the pictures of chief minister and the minister for civil supplies under Amma Hastam.

It also clarified that donations for  Uttarakhand victims can be accepted through special counter without giving publicity to individuals or organisations. The commission prohibited the distribution of items to government hostels or schools in the name of charity or philanthropy.
