58,511 apply for APSET

As many as 58,511 applications were received so far for the Andhra Pradesh State Eligibility Test (APSET) to be held on September 22.

APSET member secretary Prof B Rajeshwar Reddy told Express that they received  1,17,795 applications last year which was conducted for 24 subjects.

As the University Grants Commission (UGC) had consented to increase the number of subjects for this year APSET to 27 by including five new subjects and excluding two subjects, he said that they are expecting more number of applications than last year.

The UGC had permitted the test in five new subjects this year.

Of the 1.17 lakh who took last year’s examination, about 8,000 cleared it. 

With APSET or NET mandatory for all post-graduate students for applying for assistant professor posts in universities and for degree lecturer posts, Prof Reddy said that the number of candidates appearing for APSET this year will go up.
