Backward classes demand a sub-plan for them

AP Backward Classes Welfare Association president R Krishnaiah has demanded that the state government announce a separate BC sub-plan on the lines of SC and tribal sub-plans.

Speaking to newsmen on Monday after submitting a memorandum to chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, he said given the backwardness of the people from BC communities, it is essential for the state to announce a separate sub-plan for them.

He said with development on various fronts, the traditional occupations of different BC communities have become more or less obsolete and in such a scenario, it is essential, they be given a fillip to sustain and progress in their lives.

He demanded Rs 5 lakh to Rs 50 lakh loans on individual basis for occupational sustainability, two acres of land to landless BCs with solar pumpsets on 100 percent subsidy rates. Stating that several BC students were unable to pursue higher education, he demanded the seats in study centres for BCs, which are limited now, be increased.
