The Election Commission has announced the schedule for byelection to Avanigadda Assembly constituency which fell vacant following the demise of Ambati Brahmanaiah (TDP). The byelection would be held on Aug 21.
The Election Commission’s decision might spur demands for byelection to the 15 Assembly seats that had fallen vacant following the disqualification of Congress (9) and TDP (6) legislators on June 8 for violating the party whips during voting on no-confidence motion against Kiran Reddy’s government.
When Avanigadda seat fell vacant following the demise of Brahmanaiah on April 21, he had an unfinished term of more than one year, which fact makes the seat eligible for by-election. But the 15 legislators who were disqualified on June 8 had less than one year term which makes their seats ineligible for byelection.
