Bonalu comes to Vijayawada

At a time when the people are divided along the regional lines over possible bifurcation of the state, spiritual activities are uniting them.

Setting political animosities aside, about 300 devotees arrived here from Hyderabad to present Bonalu to Kanaka Durga atop the Indrakeeladri on Sunday.

The devotees, under the auspices of Sri Mahankali Bonala Jatara Utsavala Ummadi Devalayala Uregimpu Committee Bhagyanagar, Hyderabad, came to the Durga Temple on Sunday and offered Bonalu and a silk saree.

M Madhusudhan Yadav, general secretary of the committee, told Express that he was delighted to visit Durga temple in Vijayawada and felt that spiritual activities were nothing to do with politics. He said they had prayed for the well-being of people. Yadav said Bonalu festival is celebrated during the Aashadam month every year in Telangana and prayers are offered at various temples in Hyderabad.

The Hyderabadis arrived here for the sixth consecutive year to present Bonalu to Goddess Durga.
