Murder accused among two arrested with illegal weapons

Two persons were arrested by the police during a check at the Hindupur market yard check-post and two country-made revolvers and two rounds of live bullets were recovered from them. The duo were moving under suspicious circumstances when the police frisked them.

During interrogation, police found that one of the accused has a criminal background.

The accused - P Nagendra alias Puri of Koyalkuntla in Kurnool, and Kamaraju of neighbouring Karnataka.

Penukonda DSP Ramakoteswara Rao told reporters that Nagendra was earlier involved in a case of murdering a woman, Chennamma, in Kurnool and also in a broad daylight murder of a student, Manjunath, in Nellore district.

Nagendra was also involved in attempted robberies and cases were also registered against him under the Arms Act in Karnataka, the DSP said.

Nagendra was arrested in the murder case of Chennamma but fled from police custody while being shifted for trial.

Since his escape, he befriended the other accused and bothe of them were involved in several offences.
