Man gets jail for misusing Government funds

A local court on Thursday convicted and sentenced a person to three years imprisonment for misappropriation of funds that were released for water shed schemes in the district.  In 1999-2000, the government sanctioned funds for 73 water shed schemes to overcome water crisis and develop ground water resources.  An NGO run by D Subba Reddy of Kalasapadu was handed over the job of five water sheds and funds were allocated for the same.

Following allegations of misappropriation of funds, a case was registered against Subba Reddy and two others, Chandrasekhar Reddy, the then branch manager of Rayalaseema Grameena Bank, Badwel branch, and Samuel, accountant of Kadapa Union Bank. After a 13-year trial, the second additional junior civil judge Bujjappa on Thursday delivered the verdict and convicted Subba Reddy.  The other two accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
