OU students protest move on Rayala Telangana

Around 40 students of the Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OUJAC) hurled stones on the police on the campus on Saturday when they were prevented from organising a rally in protest against Centre’s moves to carve out a new Rayala-Telangana state.

Around noon the students gathered near the NCC Gate on the campus and tried to go in a procession but were prevented by the police.

The students tried to remove the barricades but in vain.

The OUJAC members then resorted to stone-throwing which lasted about an hour.

Although eyewitnesses said that one person was injured and another was picked up, the university police, however, repudiated that claim.

“We only want Telangana. Merging Kurnool and Anantapur districts of Rayalaseema is nothing but a political game being played politicians from that region.

“We will resist the move with all our might,” said M Krishank, OUJAC’s spokesman.
