Nearly 30 roads badly damaged in Karimnagar

The condition of several  roads in the town is very bad despite the Karimnagar municipality being upgraded as a Corporation.

Nearly 30 roads have been completely damaged after the recent heavy rain, with big potholes, cracks and slush on them causing a lot of misery to the motorists using them.

Apart from causing physical injuries to the road-users, these bad roads are also damaging their vehicles.

Incomplete underground drainage works have compounded the problem of bad roads. Open manholes and pits endanger the limbs and lives of the road-users, especially during the rainy season when they are filled up with water and become unnoticeable.  A Bhasker, who fractured his hand after falling into one such water-filled pit about a year back is still suffering from pain in the hand.

The roads from the Bypass (Baddam Ella Reddy Statue) to the Kaman and from the Kaman to the Telangana Cross-roads, belonging to the Roads & Buildings Department, are in very shape. RThe corporation road near Bhagath Singh Statue in Bhagathnagar has turned a danger spot for vehicle users especially during the rains.

R&B Department Superintending Engineer Chandu Lal told Express that about `2 crore had been sanctioned for repairing the Kaman- Telangana Chowk Road but due to the AP High Court ordering a status quo they were unable to repair the road. Once the HC stay was vacated,  the officials would take up the repair works, he added.

On the other hand, the repair works on the Kaman- Bypass road could not be taken up due the panchayat polls-related Model Code of Conduct being in force though the necessary funds had been sanctioned.

Similarly, Karimnagar Municipal In-charge Commissioner  Abid Hussain said that the corporation had sent proposals worth Rs 4.25 crore to the government for undertaking repairs to internal roads. The corporation would start the repairs once the government cleared the proposals.
