'MPs should quit, not MLAs'

Finding fault with MPs and Union ministers from Seemandhra for not resigning in the wake of the Centre’s decision to divide the State, APNGOs’ Association president P Ashok Babu warned Thursday they would have to face public fury.

He was speaking at the Rayachoti Ranabheri held at the Government Junior College grounds here. “You failed to react when the time was ripe. You should have resigned the moment the Centre announced its decision. The Centre would have come down to Hyderabad if you had taken the right decision. Now, you want to stop the process but tell us how you will do so?” Ashok Babu demanded amidst thunderous applause from thousands of people who gathered at the college grounds.

Ashok Babu said the Seemandhra stir had sent shivers down the spine of the UPA government. In the initial stages, the Centre asked the MPs to go ahead with their resignations but now, it has come down, he pointed out.

“The Centre is afraid of Telugu people. As MPs, you have to resign whenever the Cabinet note is put up or else, you will face the wrath of the people,” Ashok Babu warned the MPs and Union ministers.

With respect to the resignation of MLAs, he said some legislators, who backtracked from resigning, were now going ahead to get their resignations accepted.

“It is better for them not to resign at this stage. They should vote against Telangana Bill.. then only will the people believe in them,” he said.

Ashok Babu said decisions of political parties are not royal edicts and said they have to change them as people’s aspirations are the edicts.
