VMC In No Mood to Solve Problems: CPM

CPM city secretary Ch Babu Rao has said that though more than a month has passed since the VMC Council has been in place, the ruling party has not made any attempts to save the civic body from its crisis.

VIJAYAWADA: CPM city secretary Ch Babu Rao has said that though more than a month has passed since the VMC Council has been in place, the ruling party has not made any attempts to save the civic body from its crisis.

Speaking to reporters at the CPM office in the city Thursday, he said that the Council was not making any attempt to find solution to any problem and did not bring even one rupee from the state government.

He said, “Instead of sanctioning new funds, the TDP government has stalled the release of `57 crore that had been allocated earlier. Out of the granted amount, `10 crore had been allotted for road construction and `40 crore for construction of drains.”

He further alleged that though 28,000 houses were allotted for the people under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), only 15,000 were under construction and that 10,000 had been cancelled recently.

Saying that the TDP mayor and corporators were not ready to take the problems to the notice of CM, Rao announced that they would stage a protest on Aug 6 at VMC. CPM members Donepudi Kasinath, U V Rama Raju were present in the meeting.
