RAJAHMUNDRY: Social welfare minister Ravela Kishore Babu visited the Social Welfare Girls’ Hostel and BC Welfare Hostel, and reviewed the facilities for the inmates in the city Sunday. Upon learning that the inmates were facing several problems like insufficient rooms, improper sanitation and lack of sufficient trunk boxes, the minister promised to do the needful at the earliest and added that the Social Welfare Department was putting its endeavour to improve the standards of the hostels.

He underlined the need for increasing the quality of food and improving the performance of 60 per cent hostels in the state, even as about 1.50 lakh students are residing in the SC/ST hostels presently. From September 1, the officers of various departments will supervise the hostels everyday and submit a report to the government. Also, a meeting will be convened with the district medical and health officials to take up regular medical checkup of the hostel inmates, he added. Rajahmundry Urban MLA Dr Akula Satyananrayana, Social welfare joint director Madhusudan Rao, SC Corporation executive director Siri and RDO V Nanraj were present.
