VIJAYAWADA: The city is gearing up to host the first collectors’ conference on August 7. District collectors of all the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh, superintendents of police, higher officials from all the departments and ministers are going to attend the meeting which will be chaired by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

According to official sources, the conference will be conducted at The Gateway Hotel on MG Road as the district officials have finally zeroed in on it after they carefully examined and found that there is no other suitable venue for the conference.

“Since the conference will be attended by around 150 officers including chief minister and other ministers, we have inspected several venues in and around the city and finally decided to organise it at the Gateway Hotel,” said a senior officer.

“We have considered the newly built irrigation office Medha IT park, ‘A Convention’ Centre and others, but those are not fit  for conducting the conference. ‘A Convention Centre’ had been already booked by others and moreover, there are no proper facilities if the CM wants to rest. We have also considered Medha IT Park building, but it needs lakhs of rupees expenditure to make it ready to host the meeting. In view of all these things, we have finally decided to hold the conference at Hotel Gateway,” the officers added.

“While chief minister Chandrababu Naidu will rest at the State Guest House, the ministers will stay at the Gateway Hotel and officers may stay at various hotels including D V Manor and Fortune Murali in the city,” said a senior revenue official.

Sources said that the conference will begin at 11 am and end around 9 pm.

Chief minister wants to review his ‘seven missions’ allotting one hour for each mission and he will also reviewe the law and order situation after discussing the seven points.

Meanwhile, VMC officials are sprucing up the city by removing the garbage, clearing the drainage and arranging the streetlights.

It may be recalled here that the swearing-in ceremony of chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu was held at Nagarjuna University in Guntur, near here.
