KHAMMAM: With TDP leader Gadipally Kavita becoming the elected chairman of Khammam Zilla Parishad (ZP), the yellow party was able to capture at least one ZP in Telangana State with the support of the Left.
During the indirect polls to the posts of chairperson and vice chairperson of Khammam ZP on Thursday here, TDP ZPTC Gadipally Kavita (Venkatapuram) was elected as chairperson while another TDP ZPTC B Vasudeva Rao (Palwancha) was elected as vice-chairman.
Of the 39 seats in the ZP, TDP has 19, Congress 10, CPM 2, CPI 1 and YSRCP has 4 members. Though the CPI (ML) New Democracy has three ZPTCs, the party boycotted the polls in protest against the proposed Polavaram project.
TDP ZPTC Kavita won by securing 22 votes as the CPM and CPI members backed her candidature. Vasudeva Rao was elected to the vice chairman post unopposed.
