GUNTUR: Bodies of three girls have been found in the Krishna river near Sitanagaram, Tadepalli mandal in Guntur district Sunday. They reportedly drowned in the river  near Sitanagaram ghat here Saturday.

The deceased were identified as B Pallavi, S Pujitha and Y Naga Lakshmi, all intermediate second year students studying at a corporate college at Autonagar in Vijayawada.

According to information, the victims visited the Sitanagaram bathing ghat Saturday morning.

They were seen there  from around 11 am to 4 pm, the locals said.  Later, the girls went missing leaving their college bags and other belongings on the shore. Tadepalli police said that the three girls drowned in the river after a strong current pulled them inside when they ventured into the river. Meanwhile, mystery shrouded the deaths as the local witnesses say that the three girls left a note on their bag which read, “Our names are Pallavi, Pujitha and Naga Lakshmi, and our details are inside the bag.”

Speaking to Express, Tadepalli circle inspector B Hari Krishna ruled out any foul play in the incident.

“A strong water current might have pulled them in when they ventured into the river. However, we are also investigating the possibility of suicide. We have registered a case under Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) section 174 (Suspicious death),” the CI added.
