VIJAYAWADA: AB Venkateswara Rao took charge as commissioner of police here Monday.
Addressing a press conference on the occasion, Rao said that the Police Department would extend its support to the government and people. It would play an important role in the development of the newly-formed state of Andhra Pradesh.
The new CP said the police would ensure proper maintenance of law and order in the city. A review meeting would be organised with all the officials concerned. “After the review meeting, we shall focus on crime against women, thefts, frauds and other offences,” he added.
He said that the police would consider expansion of the police commissionerate in the city after confirmation of the capital region.
