VHS Debate Contest Draws Good Response

Around 300 students participated in the finals of inter-school debate competition, organised by Visakha Hridayshan (VHS) here Monday.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Around 300 students participated in the finals of inter-school debate competition, organised by Visakha Hridayshan (VHS) here Monday.

Andhra University vice-chancellor GSN Raju was the chief guest. The topic for debate was ‘The Role of Social Media in Fostering Gender Relations Amongst Youth’.

AU professors and renowned persons from the city were the judges at the event. Students from Bethany, Chaitanya Public School, DAV Centenary Public School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pollocks, Sanskruthi Global School, Sri Prakash Vidya Niketan, Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar and Visakha Valley among other schools took part. Winners from the competition will take part in the Global Youth Meet (GYM 2014), to be held in November.

The organisers said that the GYM would see participation from 35 countries and 15 Indian states with 400 participants, including youth delegates and adult facilitators.

Leading resource persons from global organisations like the World Health Organisation (WHO), World Heart Federation (WHF), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) will take part. Senior cardiologist and VHS president M Bhaskara Rao, secretary CS Srinivas, director- communications (VHS) Dwaram Swamy, and others were present.
