Santoshi Placed V’nagaram Dist on World Map: Ashok

VIZIANAGARAM: Silver medal winner in weight lifting at the Common Wealth Games 2014 M Santoshi was felicitated by the district authorities here Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Union minister for civil aviation P Ashok Gajapathi Raju, who was the chief guest of the function, congratulated Santoshi upon her success and said that Santoshi had brought global recognition to the district with her achievement.  He complimented Santoshi’s parents who gave a tremendous encouragement to her.

He felt that Santoshi would have won the gold medal if she had better facilities for training. Ashok Gajapathi Raju appealed to collector MM Nayak to provide better facilities for sportspersons at Kondavelagada. He said he would also make a donation from his MP LAD funds.

Stating that the responsibility of Santoshi had increased with this achievement, he wished her to win more medals for the country. ZP chairperson Shoba Swathi congratulated Santoshi and her parents and sanctioned Rs 3 lakh from Zilla Parishad.

Meanwhile, Santoshi thanked her parents and her coach Ramu for supporting her all the time. She also requested the officials to provide a  government job to her.

Additional joint collector B Rama Rao, TDP members D Jagadish, G Sandhya Rani, Shobha Hymavathi and other members took part.
