VISAKHAPATNAM: The Andhra University is ready to offer Matsa Santoshi, the silver medallist in weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games - 2014, a job that she deserves, vice-chancellor of the university GSN Raju has said.
He was the chief guest of the function organised to felicitate Santoshi by Uttarandhra Vidyarthi Sena (UVS) at the AU Platinum Jubilee Guest House here Monday.
On the occasion, Raju presented `10,000 cash award to Santoshi. The V-C said that AU was ready to offer a job for Santoshi, after her return from Patiala where she was going for further training in weightlifting.
Santoshi said there was no support to her in the initial phase of her career. She recalled being hospitalised for a knee injury and how she recovered from it and then went on to win championships. She said the support of her family members and her determination contributed a lot to her success.
S Ramana Murthy, AU research scholar said UVS was ready to extend any help to Santoshi.
Several UVS members, including AU officials, presented cash prizes to Santoshi. Rector EA Narayana and coach Ramu were present on the occasion.
