Habitual House Burglar Held; Jewellery, Cash Seized

VISAKHAPATNAM: The city police arrested a person who was involved in more than 10 house burglary cases here Thursday and recovered 6 kg silver, 50 g gold, `1 lakh and a few electronic goods from him. The arrested was identified as Ch Vijay Kumar (33) of Vizianagaram district and a resident of Madhurawada area in Visakhapatnam.

According to the police, Vijay Kumar was an ex-convict and was imprisoned for being involved in 30 house theft cases during 2005-2007. After getting released from jail, he served as a police informer at PM Palem police station in the city where again he was shunted out allegedly for misconduct.

Then, Vijay Kumar returned to his old lifestyle and burgled many houses in areas like Madhurawada, Pendurthi, Durganagar, Srinivasanagar, Krishnanagar and Vepagunta. He stole 7 kg silver and 130 g gold jewellery, `1.45 lakh cash, an LCD TV, a home theatre and other electronic goods.

Inspector of police (Crimes) S Adam and his team, during a routine vehicular checking, arrested Vijay Kumar while he was transporting the stolen goods on a bike. Upon interrogation, he confessed to his crimes. The cops registered a case and took up investigation.
