400 Schoolkids Take Part in Walkathon for Special Children

VISAKHAPATNAM: Arunodaya Special School, in association with Friends of Arunodaya organised a mega walkathon, ‘Chalo Chalein’ in Ukkunagaram here Sunday in which 400 children from eight schools in the township participated.

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) chairman-cum-managing director P Madhusudan flagged off the event by releasing colourful balloons. The walkathon was organised from Arunodaya School to Trishna Grounds and back to Arunodaya School.

Madhusudan observed that the event was aimed to sensitise and create awareness among school kids regarding the need and importance of including children with special needs in everyday activities through social and physical integration. He also appreciated Friends of Arunodaya and the other schoolchildren for their efforts in integrating the special children in the mega walkathon. The event also aimed at recognising the talent and abilities of special children.Visteel Mahila Samithi honorary president Gouri Annapurna, president Preeti Roy, former vice-president Sushma Chowhan, RINL directors TK Chand (Commercial), PC Mohapatra (Projects) and DN Rao (Operations), former director Umesh Chandra, CISF senior commandant CISF-RINL Unit, school principal Rajeswari and school president Bindoo Mohapatra were present. Later, the dignitaries distributed prizes to the winners of poster and songs competitions organised for the kids on the occasion.
