3 Habitual Burglars Held; Cash, Gold Recovered

VISAKHAPATNAM: The crime wing of the city police Thursday took into custody a three-member gang involved in five house break-in incidents and recovered 492 g gold jewellery, `2 lakh, two wrist watches and a laptop from them. The trio was arrested by the Sathupalli police in Khammam district of Telangana on August 13 and brought to the city on a Prisoner Transit (PT) warrant for recovery of the stolen property.

Addressing the media, additional deputy commissioner of police (Crimes) S Varada Raju said that the arrested were identified as A Kiran Kumar (25) of Hyderabad, G Pavan Kumar (27) and KV Ramalingaiah (22), both cousins from Guntur. Kiran Kumar was earlier involved in more than 50 house burglary cases in Hyderabad, Khammam and Guntur and served imprisonment. He befriended Pavan and Ramalingaiah, who were also ex-convicts during their stay at Cherlapally Central Prison. They moved to Vizag in March this year and committed five major offences. The modus operandi of the gang was to commit offences during daytime. One of the accused would stand guard outside an apartment, while another entered the flat to steal valuables and cash. The third one transported and disposed of the property. They had stolen about one kg gold, 2.5 kg silver, `2.5 lakh, three gold coated wrist watches and a laptop.
